Chapter 2 Sneak Peek #2: Elemental Affinities
This dialog bits from the wise Shaman Zarreta which he conveyed to Charlotte plays an significant role in Chapter 1, where you can maximize damage by learning and exploiting elemental weaknesses of enemies. In Chapter 2, we will be taking elemental advantage a bit further with the introduction of the elemental affinities mechanic.
With this new mechanic in place, Charlotte can augment herself with elemental properties. As her affinities goes up, she will be able to perform even more damage in battle when she uses bombs with the corresponding elemental properties. When this affinity number reached 100% or more for a certain element, she will be truly in tune with it, enabling her to heal hit points instead of taking damage when being hit with said element!
This is, of course, not without its drawback. Each element has its own strength and weaknesses, and this factor also applies to Charlotte's affinities. As her affinity increase, so does her resistance and vulnerability. For instance, if Charlotte has 50% fire affinity, she will be taking 50% less damage from earth attacks but at the same time she will take 50% more damage from water attacks. This new system aims to give players a high risk and high gain option in battles, where one can familiarize with the mobs inside a dungeon and exploit that knowledge with the appropriate affinities. Enemies may also alter Charlotte's affinities during combat, so players must learn to strategize against it.
Charlotte can already obtain equipments with elemental properties in Chapter 1, like the Lesser Fire Ring pictured above. These items will be tweaked for the new mechanic to better suit the new equipments, bombs and potions that will be introduced in Chapter 2. Players can utilize these new items to reach higher affinities number, either permanently through equipments or temporarily through buff potions.
